IN THE DRIVER’S SEAT

Anthony Panzica of Sunset Beach has come up with a new way to get car keys out of the hands of drunk drivers. In 2003, he introduced The Scooter Patrol Inc., a service that transports impaired motorists home, without forcing them to leave their vehicle behind.
As soon as service is requested, someone from Panzica’s fleet of trained drivers travels to the client’s location on a motorized scooter, places the compact vehicle in the trunk of the client’s car in a bag to protect upholstery, and drives the client home in his or her own car. Best of all, the service is free.
“We don’t want to ever have to turn anyone away,” says Panzica.
The services are sponsored by non-profit organizations, he adds.
The Scooter Patrol operates from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week in Seal Beach, Rossmore, Surfside Colony, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, and Long Beach. More service locations are planned, Panzica says.
