Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Exactly how does it work?

A: After having a few drinks, contact Scooterpatrol and request service. A professional, licensed driver will be dispatched to your location. Once arriving, he’ll stow a Goped Scooter in your vehicle’s trunk or storage space. You’ll then be driven home safely in the comfort and security of your own vehicle. Once arriving home, the driver will give you back your keys and remove the scooter from your vehicle. He will then take the scooter out of the bag, unfold it and simply ride away… Range -10 Miles from Pick-up Point.

Q: Why do you offer this service for free when you could charge for something this valuable?

A: The reason is that we don't want to ever have to turn anyone away because of their financial situation. People who have no money or are too cheap to pay (even a small fee) can still drink, drive and kill.
Additionally, the fact that there is no charge for Scooter Patrol shows that we are doing this for the right reasons: to keep the streets safer and raise awareness for this issue, not fill our pockets up with money.

Q: How do you keep the operation going if you're not charging a fee?

A: Scooter Patrol is a 501(c)(3) Corp. meaning that donations are tax deductible by law. Our tax-exempt status allows our gracious and benevolent sponsors to provide us with all of the high quality products we need to operate including, scooters, automobiles, website development/hosting, scooter lighting systems, clothing, computers and much more. In exchange, corporations who sponsor Scooter Patrol receive positive, unique brand exposure and a valuable tax break as well. It's also important to mention the Scooter Patrol volunteers (heroes) that give their time and energy to this cause. They are the life-blood of this program and none of this would be possible without them.

Q: How far will you go?

A: The official range is 10 miles. However!
If you call and make arrangements ahead of time, greater distances can usually be negotiated.

Q: Is it appropriate to tip my driver?

A: Most definitely. Please keep in mind that your driver is a volunteer who is giving up his or her weekend to help strangers because they understand the severity of the DUI issue and believe in this cause.

Q: What if I have a small car or my trunk is full?

A: Please let your dispatcher know what type of vehicle you have, how many people will need to be transported and how many stops it will take. Also, if your trunk is full we cannot help you so please make sure there is space for a scooter! This is especially true during the busy holiday shopping season.

Q: What if there is more than one drop off?

A: This is fine but you must notify your dispatcher so that we can estimate how long it will take to complete the trip.

Q: How can I trust my driver?

A: All Scooter Patrol volunteers have valid California Drivers licenses and clean criminal and driving records, not to mention our spotless track record which pretty much speaks for itself. You may request to see your driver’s Scooter Patrol credentials before you depart if it makes you feel better.

Q: How long have you been doing this?

A: Scooter Patrol was born May 15th, 2003 in Sunset Beach, California.

Q: How did Scooter Patrol come about?

A: During a conversation between the founder and a friend.

Q: Was Scooter Patrol the first company to ever do this?

A: Yes and no. Several months after launching it was discovered that another group in London, England called Scooter Man had started an anti-DUI scooter service 2 years before Scooter Patrol was born. The difference was that they charge a fee for their services. Scooter Patrol was the first group to ever provide this service for free through the non-profit system and is currently assisting several other groups around the US to start similar programs using the same non-profit business model which seems to be the most effective and efficient way to provide this service to the general public.

Q: What if we want to have Scooter Patrol provide their services at one of our events?

A: Scooter Patrol can make your next event a safer one to attend by providing a safe ride home to any of your guests who have been drinking. This not only allows you (the host/promoter/property owner)
to sleep well at night but also impresses your guests by showing them that you care about their welfare. Call us to discuss the details of your event and please have the following information available:

1. Location of venue
2. Date
3. Time
4. Expected number of guests
5. Total amount in budget available for transportation services

Q: I have several more questions about Scooter Patrol, how do I get them answered?
